Dog day afternoon

Howdy, folks - hope you're enjoying the dog days of summer.
A couple of (hopefully) newsworthy items to pass along this week.

1. I'm on holidays next week so you'll have to wait until September 4th to read any more innane babble from the likes of me (say, is that cheering I hear?).

2. Marcy will be on holidays from Sept 4-28 so, if you're in need of her often-imitated-but-never-duplicated brand of support, you'll have to squeeze it in next week or wait until October.

3. And a few socially-conscious job postings for your perusal:

i) Socially-conscious Freelance Web User Interface Developer (whew!) at Junction Strategies.
ii) Program Manager and Project Assistant (2 positions) with Project Seahorse.
iii) Urban Agriculture Intern for the Environmental Youth Alliance.
iv) Development Associate for Evergreen.
v) Administrative Assistant for the Canadian Business for Social Responsibility.
vi) Educators for BC Spaces for Nature.

Keep your coats shiny and tails a'waggin', all.

Woof!

Roll call

Howdy, folks

Just wanted to mention that our beloved Compass leader (and expert and creator...), Sharon, will be on well-deserved holidays until September 4th so, if you're in need of her top-notch services, you'll have to make do with the likes of the rest of us (sigh).

And, speaking of the rest of us, I'd also like to take this opportunity to mention that this is Elva's last week at Compass before she embarks on a new adventure back to Mexico to be with her family. I think I speak for the whole Compass clan when I say that her energy, professionality, humour, and incomparable Spanish chispa will be very sorely missed around these parts. We wish Elva the best of luck and sincerely hope that our paths cross again in the future. We also welcome (back) the lovely and talented Veronica who previously crewed with distinction on the good ship Compass and is now back to again steer the vessel with steady and practiced hands.

Hope you've got your mainsails tight and your poop decks spotless, me hearties.

Cheers for 'teers!

Howdy, folks

Here's public service announcement on behalf of those organizations needing volunteers to keep their important services running.

Top five reasons to consider volunteering:

5. It can give you a great inside look into a potentially-desirable industry.
4. It can help you learn new skills to put towards a future dream job.
3. It gives potential employers a look at what a terrific employee you would make.
2. It looks great on a resume.
1. It feels dog-gone good to contribute in a way that's meaningful to you and your community.

And just a reminder that Volunteer Vancouver (http://www.govolunteer.ca/) is an informative and user-friendly resource to search for what types of volunteer opportunites are available and might meet your needs. I signed up for the email notification service and, just this week, received some very interesting postings for such interesting organizations as the Stanley Park Ecological Society, St. Michael's Center for hospice care, and the North Shore Neighbourhood House which assists seniors, operates youth programs, and assists with child-care.

Anyhoo, thought I might illuminate a reminder (for myself as well as others) about all the potential benefits of undertaking one of these very meaningful positions.

Kudos to those of you already volunteering your time and, hopefully, we can all find a part to play in contributing to a positive community spirit.

Take care of yourselves and each other, all.

Express 'laine

Hi, all

Just a quick note to say that Elaine will be taking some well-earned holidays for the next couple of weeks and will be back to help you negotiate your wild and precious lives Monday, August 20th. Rumour has it she's embarking on a cross-Canada tour with newly-minted chauffeur/son, Brett, so we wish her good adventure and look forward to her safe return.

Keep your foot on the gas and hands at ten-and-two, all.
