Local giraffe round-up

Howdy, folks - hope you're enjoying the non-liquid sunshine.

A bit of a last-minute heads-up, perhaps, but thanks to keen-eyed alumnus, Gordon, if you'd like to spend part of your sunny weekend hanging out with some fellow giraffes, the BC Network for Compassionate Communication (aka NVC) is having their AGM this Saturday, May 31st at Langara College form 1-4PM. They're hoping for a large turnout of NVC-ers to meet and network as well as hear presentations from Raj Gill and Lucy Leu on a newly-released toolkit to help spread the word about NVC. You can check out all the details here.

Keep your giraffe ears keen and your sunscreen at the ready, all.

Deets, digits, and dogging for our needs

Howdy, folks - here are a couple of random info items from the Compass news bureau.

1. We're desperately missing a yellow-bound copy of "Do What You Are" and are hoping for its safe and speedy return. No questions asked and no guilt-induction warranted.

2. Elaine visited last week's information meeting regarding careers in the public services (ie. governments, Crown Corporations, the RCMP, the military, etc) and came away with the phone number for BC's two newly-created Career Advisor positions (1-888-944-3327). The job of these folks is to advise you as to where you might fit, career-wise, into various public service areas. It was strongly suggested that, before calling, you familiarize yourself with general public service values and determine what skills you have to offer so as to assist the advisors in determining where these attributes might be put to best use.

3. If you haven't checked out our networking website lately, you may not have seen some interesting recent blog entries, my pitch for Dave Eggers as my new personal superhero, or Rachel's notice of the sweet Now BC community potluck happening this Wednesday (May 20th) to celebrate local, sustainable food and food security and to raise money for Food For Families Food Bank.

Hope you celebrated the births of our former Monarchs in style this past weekend.

Nope, not Mats Sundin - better!

Howdy, folks - hope all's well out there in Alumniland.

We'd like to formally announce our newest addition to Team Compass: the lovely and talented Sabrina Ali who has joins our squad following previous roles at SFU and the Adler School of Psychology. Sabrina will be facilitating workshops and doing post-program follow up (and, word to the wise, is incredibly well-connected in many, many fields) so I hope you'll drop by and get to meet her in person some time. Her email address is sabrina@northshorecompass.com in case you'd like to connect with her that way, too.

Welcome aboard, Sabrina, and we look forward to all the fine contributions you'll be bringing to Compass.
