Many Happy Returns!

A hearty Compass thanks to all the distinguished alumni who came out for the reunion last night. Reacquaintances were made, new acquaintances were formed, and we successfully polished off three good-sized trays of eats - I'm calling it an unqualified success. Hopefully, some of you made new connections that may help you along your journey but, if not, don't dismay. We're currently in negotiations (read: just waking up to the idea) to construct a Compass networking site of some form to take advantage of the awesome collective wisdom and experience available through the Compass hub.
Stay tuned for details and if any of you techie types have good ideas on how to best achieve this, please feel free to send me your pitch.

And if anyone knows what the big, bright, unfamiliar thing is in the sky, please let me know that, too.

Have a great weekend, all.

Minders and reminders

1. If anyone discovers any misplaced Myers-Briggs resources kicking about, I'd be most appreciative if you could return those as soon as possible. Our stocks seem to be dwindling and we've got another group raring to use them. Many thanks in advance for your help with this.

2. One final reminder to please RSVP for this Thursday's Compass Alumni Reunion if you haven't already done so so we can save some nibblies for you. We've alredy got over 35 alumni confirmed and we're hoping to see even more of you back at the ol' Compass center. The official itinerary goes from 7-9PM but if you can't make it for the start, don't fret, just come when you can.

Thanks, all, and hope to see you Thursday.

Reunion RSVP Reminder

Just a quick reminder to RSVP as soon as possible if you're planning to attend the Compass Alumni Reunion on Thursday, January 25th (7-9PM) so we know how many nibbles and drinks to have available (and whether we need to hire a special events security team for all the rowdies). You can email me (bill@northshorecompass.com) or phone the center (984-4567), whichever is most convenient.

In terms of itinerary, we're hoping to give you time to catch up with familiar faces and then do a couple of little activities to help you get to know some of the new ones. As one hint, if you have some spare time between now and then, feel free to do a little studying on what kinds of jobs celebrities had before they were famous. Turns out, many of them had worse jobs than we did and somehow that seems more than fair.

Anyhoo, hope to see you all on the 25th.

From the Home Office in Lincoln, Nebraska...

Top Ten Reasons to Attend the "C'Mon Back Now Y'Hear" Compass Alumni Reunion Thursday, January 25th (7-9PM) at the good ol' Compass Center.

10. One more chance to drink from the coveted Cowboy Mug.
9. To finally find where that blasted "Waldo" is hiding in one of Sharon's paintings.
8. Yellow walls have been clinically proven to combat the winter blues.
7. To investigate your wife's claim that there really is a stage in the "Truth" spectrum called "None of your damned business".
6. Get to find out what newest Compass staffmember Karen's stage name was when she starred on American Gladiator in the late 80's.
5. To see if you qualify for the just-released Myers-Briggs 17th personality type, ENFW where the "W" lets you inexplicably lead the world's most powerful country into international discredit and domestic economic ruin.
4. Elva promises to sound the "Cucaracha" mariachi horn every half-hour on the half-hour.
3. We finally figured out how to work the classroom thermostat.
2. Marcy. ('nuff said)
1. It's the only night this year where you'll get to revisit with old Compass comrades, meet some new folks who may be working in your dream industry, and win some snazzy Compass-esque prizes (take that, Rosenburg!).

Please RSVP to me (bill@northshorecompass.com) sooner rather than later if you're planning to attend so we know how many Twister boards we'll need on the day. Just kidding, sadly (our insurance wouldn't cover that level of risk) but you can expect light refreshments befitting a cash-strapped non-profit and a whole lot of free cheer.

Hope to see you all on the 25th!

Fair warning

Happy Snow Day, all.

Here's a little heads-up regarding a couple of upcoming career fairs slated for early '07.

1. Education & Career Fair - January 24th.
Expect a wide variety of exhibitors but with particular emphasis on education and training. Representatives will be present from nearly all of the schools and training institutes in Western Canada (I have free tickets available so please contact me if interested in this event).

2. Jobline Canada's Career/Business Fair - February 15th
Expect representatives from a variety of Trades, Real Estate, Sales/Marketing, Import/Export, High Tech, and Tellecommunications industries.

And speaking of classy get-togethers, stay tuned for details on our Compass Alumni Reunion (January 25th) to follow shortly.

Keep avoiding that non-white-coloured snow, everybody.

And I'll even quote our thoughtful and gracious recent alumnus, Sam, who, in generously providing these posts, said "if any of the Compass alumni want that kind of work, the employer is damn lucky they came from Compass".

Thanks again, Sam, for helping out and best of luck, everybody, with the search.
