NVC 911

Apologies for the late notice but we just got word of two new NVC practice groups starting up on the North Shore that are seeking participants. They start (yikes!) today (September 29th) and run for ten weeks (hopefully, their need for maximizing participation outweighs their need for you attending every class). The cost is listed at $120 although a sliding scale is apparently in effect. If interested, email Rosemary Renstad at rrenstad@telus.net .

Hope this meets your need for understanding (if not punctuality), all.

Raising time, not funds

Hey, gang,

Thought I'd pass along this note from my friend, Emily, about a pretty cool community initiative happening this Thursday called Timeraiser. I'll let her describe it below.

~B

Hi All,

Sorry for the mass email but this is a great opportunity to own incredible art without spending any $$. A good friend of mine heads up an organization called Timeraiser. Instead of raising funds to benefit your community, they raise (volunteer) time. It's an event that's been successfully run a number of times in Toronto and this Thursday is the first time it is being run in Vancouver.

The way it works is that Timeraiser has raised funds from sponsors to purchase artwork from local professional artists. The art is then put on auction this Thursday night and participants bid with their own volunteer time and the highest bid takes the artwork home.

You can view the artwork here:
http://www.timeraiser.ca/en/Vancouver-2008/gallery

You can review the volunteer agencies here:
http://www.timeraiser.ca/en/Vancouver-2008/agencies (you can also volunteer a portion of your hours with other agencies not listed here)

Beyond the art and auction it's a great evening event. I know there's going to be a number of people I know at it, but wanted to get the word out for those i haven't seen lately. You'll need to get a ticket beforehand, so go to www.timeraiser.ca/ and sign up if you're free Thursday night.

Cheers,

Emily Murgatroyd

Shiny, showy, and surely a good time!

Just want to send out a huge Compass thank you to the fifty-odd folks who chose to share their sunny Sunday with us yesterday to celebrate our first ever Show 'n Shine. Extra-special gratitudes to Aerin (and pal Megan), Eric, Zina, Tatiana, Chantal, Andreas, Paul, Kelly, Val, Marcy, Elaine, and Sharon for boldly showing their stuff - so many talented peeps in the Compass universe!

If you happened to miss the fun, feel free to check out the following snaps so you'll know what to expect when you (hopefully) join us for the second annual Show 'n Shine next year.

Thanks again, all, and we hope you'll continue to share with us all the fantastic and fascinating things going on out there in Alumniland.

Top Twelve Reasons to Attend Sunday's Show 'n Shine (take that, Letterman!)

12. See what your creative and resourceful fellow Compass Alumni have been doing with all the spare aliveness they found between their couch cushions.
11. Get a revitalizing dose of that trademark Compass yellow-walled energy.
10. Combine the trip to the North Shore with a visit to the Lower Lonsdale Fall Festival (10AM-3PM) where you can enjoy a pancake breakfast, parade, and continuous street entertainment (but please note that parking in the area may be at a bit of a premium).
9. A selection of Sharon's amazing paintings - one day only, half price!
8. Experience Eric's live demonstration of how to get your tired, old jalopy computer performing like a Ferrari without buying expensive new components (or looking like you're having a mid-life crisis).
7. Meet, mingle, and network with some interesting and engaging new folks.
6. See an in-person demonstration of Marcy's fab technique in energy healing.
5. Zina's bringing a massage table - 'nuff said.
4. Veronica will be leading a rousing rendition of "Rule, Brittania" every hour, on the hour (note: this may or may not be factual).
3. Bring friends and/or family to show them where you suffered through your Compass Basic Training (feel free to call the classroom the "Theatre of Pain", if it helps curry sympathy).
2. Be a participant in Elaine's exciting group hypnosis experiment!
1. We miss seeing y'all so please don't make us beg (it's kind of hard on the knees).

See you Sunday!

Shining up the show

Howdy, folks

We're officially T-minus-six-sleeps until next Sunday's Compass Show 'n Shine and I have a few last-minute info items to pass along to make sure the whole shebang runs as smoothly as possible.

Rumour has it that I haven't been particularly clear about what this whole affair is about (mostly because we've never done it before and, admittedly, I'm kind of making it up as I go). Here's my best description: the Show 'n Shine is intended to let Compass participants (past and present) display anything they think the rest of us might be interested in seeing. I've heard from artists who'd like to show what they've created (ie. paintings, jewelery, woodwork, writing, photography, food, films, etc.), service providers who'd like to show off their services (ie. life coaching, computer applications, massage therapies, job search materials, etc), and a few others who don't fit neatly into any particular category - any and all are welcome. The main intended goals are to celebrate the efforts of our amazing alumni, give folks a chance to be inspired by what others are doing, and provide an opportunity to meet some interesting new contacts (hello, networking!).

In terms of logistics, presenters can start setting up their stations at 12 noon in preparation for a 1PM start time. It'll be first-come-first-served for locations - I'm sure we'll have enough space for all but, if you've got a favourite spot in mind, you might want to claim that space early. I've heard from a few presenters regarding the kinds of things they might be needing to help display their wares but, if you haven't done so already, please send word so we can have things put aside for you when you arrive.

Lookie-loos, we'll be ready for your arrival at 1PM and you're welcome to meander about until 4PM when we'll be doing mop up and trying to return the Centre to its normal state (some would argue that it's never truly "normal" but none-the-less...).

That's it - have a great week and we look forward to seeing you all next Sunday.
FYI: I never did finish my macrame plant-hanger but will be happy to show off my trademark "office organizational system" to anyone interested (which basically consists of a mug in which to throw spare pens).

Back in Black

Hi, gang

I'm fresh back from holidays (although my colleagues may argue about the "freshness" part... hey, can't a guy take a vacation from deodorant once in a while, too?) and ready to devote my full attention to the upcoming September 21st Show 'n Shine. It sounds like we're looking at a rollicking good turnout of both presenters and lookie-loos so, hopefully, you've set aside the date and time (1-4PM) to join us in celebrating all the cool things your fellow Compasses are doing. There's still space for additions to the presenter list so, if you're doing something you think we should know about, feel free to join up. At this time, I'm asking for all presenters to please send me a list of what you think you'll need to display your wares (ie. wall space, tables, computers, photocopying, etc) to make sure that we've got enough resources for all comers. Lookie-loos, you needn't do anything besides start laying out your Sunday best attire (remember, no white after Labour Day!) and practicing your oohing-and-ahing.

Hope you're enjoying our lovely extended summer, all.
(I know my waistline has certainly extended itself of late...)
