Raising time, not funds

Hey, gang,

Thought I'd pass along this note from my friend, Emily, about a pretty cool community initiative happening this Thursday called Timeraiser. I'll let her describe it below.

Hi All,

Sorry for the mass email but this is a great opportunity to own incredible art without spending any $$. A good friend of mine heads up an organization called Timeraiser. Instead of raising funds to benefit your community, they raise (volunteer) time. It's an event that's been successfully run a number of times in Toronto and this Thursday is the first time it is being run in Vancouver.

The way it works is that Timeraiser has raised funds from sponsors to purchase artwork from local professional artists. The art is then put on auction this Thursday night and participants bid with their own volunteer time and the highest bid takes the artwork home.

You can view the artwork here:

You can review the volunteer agencies here:
http://www.timeraiser.ca/en/Vancouver-2008/agencies (you can also volunteer a portion of your hours with other agencies not listed here)

Beyond the art and auction it's a great evening event. I know there's going to be a number of people I know at it, but wanted to get the word out for those i haven't seen lately. You'll need to get a ticket beforehand, so go to www.timeraiser.ca/ and sign up if you're free Thursday night.

Cheers,
