Yoga Outreach Retreat - May 28-30

A bit late notice, perhaps, but I thought I'd pass along this bulletin from my pal Sarah in hopes that anyone interested in either this event or the organization as a whole might be able to connect.

An Invitation from Yoga Outreach for a Special Retreat Weekend, May 28-30, 2010

Cultivating Harmony

Every May some of the best yoga teachers in the Vancouver region travel to Squamish to share their wisdom and talent, offered directly from their hearts. They do this in support of Yoga Outreach, a unique charitable organization dedicated to sharing the healing path of yoga with everyone, regardless of their life situation. Yoga Outreach organizes free yoga classes in prisons, mental health settings, recovery centres, transition homes and other locations.

Join us May 28-30 for our 11th Annual Yoga Outreach Retreat in Paradise Valley. Set on a 420-acre ecological reserve along the banks of the Cheakamus River, our retreat takes place in a lovely, peaceful setting just 45 minutes from Horseshoe Bay. You'll be able to enjoy your pick of yoga and meditation classes or a take quiet time by the river; eat exquisite, healthy meals; shop at our marketplace for one-of-a-kind gifts; and meet people of all types who share a belief that yoga changes lives.

A diverse group of teachers from many different backgrounds will offer yoga and meditation classes throughout the weekend; as well, there will be a film screening on Friday and a night of magical didgeridoo music with Shine Edgar on Saturday.

TEACHER LIST INCLUDES
Sharon Abbondanza
James Fairbanks
Mary-Jo Fetterly
Tina James
Michele Labelle
Deedee (Leevers) Poyner
Christine Price-Clark

On a Roll

Howdy, folks - hoping all's well out there in alumniland.

A couple of info items to pass along:

1. Sounds like there's a fair amount of interest in attending Steve Miller's free May 30th session (10-11AM) where he'll be talking about his new ICS workbook (Profoundly Simple Career Planning) and answering questions about anything ICS-related so, if you're planning to attend, please send a quick RSVP so we can make sure we've got enough room for everyone.

2. There have been some interesting recent additions to our networking website including Arlen's helpful Forum post on how to create a PDF file for resumes and cover letters and a couple of terrific videos from Kathy and Daryl that celebrate essential moments and tickle the funny bone. If you haven't visited the site (nscompassalumni.ning.com) in a while, feel free to have a gander and even add some interesting bits of your own.

3. Zina recently discovered a great-looking website community called Wiser Earth for those interested in social justice, indigenous rights, and environmental stewardship. Using this networking hub, you can connect yourself with people, groups, events, and resources to help explore any of these areas.

4. On a personal note, a number of people have graciously asked to be informed about when I'm performing (in the musical sense) next so, with an upcoming gig on June 4th, if you'd like any details, feel free to send a note and I'll happily supply. As a special treat, you'll also have the pleasure of hearing talented Compass alumnus Missy Donaldson's nimble fingers and velvet pipes as the opening act.

That's it for now, gang, but, if you hear of anything else in which you think others might be interested, please feel free to forward and we'll put it out on the loudspeaker.

Have fun finding new and exciting ways to celebrate the life and contributions of one of our most-beloved former monarchs this long weekend (hint: croquet and G&Ts).

Compass Idol

Well, it’s official. The first Season of Compass Idol premiered last night to much whooping and hollering, showcasing the incredibly talented Bards Kevin, Michael, Suzy, Jules, Lisa and our very own Mr. Bill Upward!

We all filled up on abundant helpings of feeling competent, significant and likeable, (not to mention several helpings of chips and dip as well) and celebrated the evening in fine style with over 60 Compass-infused souls.

A huge thank you to all of you who showed up as your glowing authentic selves last night and shared your stories, experiences and journeys with friends both old and new and even the odd stranger or two. The yellow walls absorbed it all and have been radiating ever since.

Cheers,
Zina, on behalf of Team Compass
